Sarah’s versatility and passion has led her into the creation of her style blog, fashion films, and subsequent music videos, working both in front of the camera and behind the scenes in artistic and co-direction.
What are you doing now within music, and where do you hope to go next?
I am planning to release an album, and music videos paired with it. I want to speak to people through my work and hopefully inspire positive attitudes, and generally make people feel good and be able to escape from realism for even just a moment. The next phase for me is creating a bigger audience, having more artistic products to market, like clothing and framed pictures.
What struggles or setbacks have you experienced in your efforts to build a career in music?
I would say I've had to be super creative with piecing my works together without having a large fund behind me to propel everything. I've also had to build a contact base full of people of different skillsets: for example finding radio presenters to play my music, finding graphic designs to twinkle-up my edited videos, producers that match my songwriting style.
I am resilient and try to learn to do something myself or ask around. I would say my technique is working. I see that people want to help those who help themselves. My attitude towards the music industry hasn't been changed but my understanding of what it is and success within it has grown.
What advice would you pass on to someone who is in the same position you once were?
I would say keep putting yourself out there, keeping realising your ideas so people can see what you're about and what exactly you can bring to the table. And don't undervalue yourself. Do not let the constraints of society depict your outcome. Know that you are talented and are willing to give it your all and truly go for it. It’s a cliché, but I'd say reach for the stars!
