Music quiz
Audio Network recently hosted a music quiz at their office in support of Youth Music. The event brought together participants for a fun-filled evening of tunes and laughs – with some teams getting very competitive! It was a great event which raised £500. We’re grateful to Audio Network for their support. Here’s what they had to say:
“As a music company we loved the idea of organising a music-themed quiz at our office to test our team's knowledge and raise donations for Youth Music. It was great being able to support an organisation that helps young people in challenging situations to discover how they can change their lives through music.”
If you’d like to host a fundraising event at your company in aid of Youth Music, please email fundraising@youthmusic.org.uk and we’d be happy to help.
10,000 steps a day
Being active doesn’t mean you have to go on lengthy runs or spend hours in the gym. Walking is a great form of exercise, especially if you find yourself sitting at a desk all day, which Youth Music HQ can be guilty of sometimes! Why not choose a month and challenge yourself to walk 10,000 steps a day? Get your friends, family and colleagues involved, and maybe even create a collaborative playlist online for you to all enjoy on your daily walk. There’s plenty of free apps to track your movement, and not every app requires a smartwatch. Make sure you setup a fundraising page for Youth Music so that people can donate, and don’t forget to update your page with your progress!
Marathons
Fancy going that extra mile (or 26.2 miles to be precise!)? Then sign up to a local marathon. From time to time we have a number of charity places for some of the marathons, but if you have a ballot place and want to raise money for Youth Music then we’d love to have you on our team.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the London Marathon team have created the #TwoPointSixChallenge. The idea is that you choose a challenge, any challenge at all, related to the numbers 2.6 or 26 (the number of miles in a marathon, plus the date the event would have taken place). Whatever your age or ability, you can get involved. Ideas include a 2.6 mile bike ride while listening to your favourite tunes, hosting a 26 minute live stream showcasing your singing or DJing skills, or singing the song that was number 1 on your 26th birthday. We’d love to see your challenges and would appreciate any donations you can give:
Other running events
Every year Youth Music takes part in the Ealing Half Marathon and the Osterley Park 10k. The more Youth Music team members, the better, so please join us at either of these events. We’d be delighted to welcome you.
Dance-a-thon
There’s many ways to express your passion for music, with dance being a great example. You could set yourself the challenge to dance for a number of hours and get people of all ages and abilities involved. You can either host a physical event and sell tickets for people to attend or stream the event online and include a fundraising link in support of Youth Music – or both!
2.6 Challenge: NewYVC
Youth Music has funded NewYVC at Stratford Circus for many years, and their Musical Director, Jane Wheeler, wanted to give back and acknowledge the support we had given to freelancers during the COVID-19 crisis.
She said, "We are so grateful to Youth Music for all their support and for all the amazing work they do to give opportunities to young people all over the country."
The group sang for 26 minutes non-stop via Zoom and they reached their £250 fundraising target before the event even started! They have since gone on to raise over £300 for Youth Music – thank you to Jane and everyone involved.
2.6 Challenge: Groundswell Arts
Angeline Conaghan of Groundswell Arts performed a beautiful rendition of Coldplay's Yellow with her son Spike. Angeline chose this song because it was released in the year she turned 26, and it was one of her brother's favourite songs, who sadly passed away in 2017. Angeline beat her fundraising target and has raised £160 for Youth Music – thanks so much Angeline and Spike!
