The Higher Frequency

Jack Davenport is an audio engineer, visual artist and music producer based in Manchester. Exploring his vast interest in modern visual art mediums such as film, animation and interactive video, Jack has produced a variety of visual works for gigs and nightclubs, as well as music videos and promotional content. Jack has experience in composing for film, theatre performances and producing audio for advertisements and podcasts. Jack’s quickfire attitude to creating and re-appropriating various artforms has led to several opportunities to remix songs for artists around the country as well as to publish his own musical works online.

Tara Lily Klein is a sound artist, producer and vocalist based in Bristol. Inside the Higher Frequency world, she has produced Episodes 1 and 5, bringing a range of talented artists from London, Manchester and Bristol’s scenes to the podcast.

Beyond podcast production, Tara’s audio work includes music production, sound design, audio poems and vocal session work, through which she continues to collaborate with artists from a range of interdisciplinary creative worlds. Beyond sound, Tara regularly documents protest culture through the lens.

Tara recently released her debut single, Frame of Ted, under her artist name t l k, which you can stream on all platforms now.

Felipe is a podcast & music producer based in London. He has gained over 6 years experience in the music industry through production, recording, mixing on various projects and holds a Master’s in music composition. Felipe is currently working as a freelance podcast producer, doing projects with the BBC, Youth Music and more. Felipe is looking to continue his journey in podcasting.

Kara Conway is a singer-songwriter from Glasgow who has emerged onto the Scottish music scene winning slots to appear at the prestigious Danny Kyle Stage at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall as part of Celtic Connections, Killin Music Festival and Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie Maclean’s annual Perthshire Amber Festival. She has also performed solo on the SEC Armadillo stage accompanied by a live orchestra. Recently, Kara released her latest single “Bold”. Inspired by the climate change movement, it is the third single from her forthcoming EP “This Life”. Kara also hosts a Sunday morning radio show on Celtic Music Radio, where she plays a mixture of music from up and coming and established artists.

Jade Barnett, also known as Jade Brown is an upcoming Presenter, Youtuber and Host. She is also the owner of a job board page @jbtheopportunist and 'Let's Talk About It' YouTube series. Jade has worked with BBC, Reprezent Radio, Word on the Curb, to name a few! Growth is her biggest asset, and has come far from being a young girl growing up in a in South East London, as a care leaver at 16 and mixing with the wrong crowd. She is now lives independently, drives and works full time for the FCDO within the Travel Advice Team. Jade is now perusing all her career dreams in presenting.

Malene Simonsen is originally from Denmark but currently lives in the UK where she is in her final year of a media production bachelor. She is passionate about all shapes and sizes of the arts and is working towards her goal of earning a living through telling stories. You can find her on twitter and instagram @malene_simonsen and her youtube channel is called Malene Simonsen because whilst storytelling is her passion, coming up with names is not.

Harry is a writer, DJ and care worker, currently based in Brighton. You can catch them hosting radio shows including a monthly show on Platform B, a youth led radio station in Brighton. They have also DJ'd at various Brighton venues such as Patterns and Junkyard Dog, and they run an LGBT+ online digital magazine, ICKY.

Alice is a DJ uner the name Egg on Toast. She is part of the Manchester based Not Bad for a Girl collective. You can catch Alice mixing with DJ POLLY as well as a duo called Medi Breck. Alice will be starting a new show on Steam Radio, where music and artists that are underrepresented within the music industry will be explored through tracks, discussions and documentary style segments. She is also an aspiring filmmaker, who has recently been part of a project called ShortaFORM. Alice enjoyed her first experience being a music journalist for Youth Music, and is looking forward to investigating more music related stories in the future!

Liv K is currently in their final undergraduate year at Goldsmiths, UoL - researching the areas of affect, embodiment and sound and specialising in Radio. When people ask them where they’re from, they keep it pretty broad: “sea and city in the south, but my heart’s up north.” Their biggest love is music; from brooding lo-fi to distorted hyperpop, they enjoy listening to and creating emotive tunes. This love for music is just one of the reasons why Liv is so excited to have the role of Music Journalist in the making of ‘The Higher Frequency’ podcast!

Prachee Mashru is a multi faceted Media Student from Mumbai, currently residing in London. After pursuing theatre and spoken word from a very young age, she quickly realised her passion is curating sub cultures and telling stories, regardless of the medium. She has since hosted multiple events across Mumbai, worked for major brands and record labels and been a part of facilitating the NBA India Campaign. Currently, she’s working on Decolonising the Arts project at University of the Arts London and dabbling into making podcasts that talk about culture and getting her degree. She hopes to continue talking about representation and empower unheard voices.

After completing her Biomedical Sciences degree, Fatima decided to follow her passion by pursuing a career in the media industry. She has built experience in various roles at different media companies including BBC 5Live, Big People Music and RD Content. She is also a co-founder of Cultrd Collective; a multi-media production team.

Fatima is a huge fan of Rap and R&B music (especially from the 90s!) and has set up an Instagram page dedicated to 90s hiphop fashion and culture called @backinthedayzz!

Arenma has always had a passion for music from a young age and although he is unable to make music himself, he enjoys being able to use his personality in presenting to talk about music, as a way to give back to an art form that given him so much over the years. Arenma began a series with New Wave Magazine called 'After the Stage' which involved him interviewing artists at their shows after they had performed at gigs. His previous guests included Kasien, A2, Miles from Kinshasa and Finn Foxell.

Lydia is passionate about music journalism and telling people's stories. Having trained as a journalist at Nottingham Trent University and graduated in May 2020, she has been working on The Higher Frequency podcast has been her first graduate job and she has thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Lydia has loved speaking to musicians about their industry and learning about what it takes to work in music. Lydia's favourite music to listen to is Pop, R+B and Indie but she's also a massive musical theatre nerd and loves a good showtune! Lydia is passionate about gender equality, and for her dissertation made a Radio documentary Turning up the volume on Sexism in music’ about gender inequality in the music industry. The documentary was aired on BBC Radio Shropshire and she achieved a first for this piece of work.

Alys Parsons is a freelance journalist and author based in the Midlands; she has an Undergraduate degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, an MA in Multimedia Journalism and is completing an NCTJ Diploma. She has interviewed musicians, politicians and academics and written articles on a wide range of subjects. Her work has been published both in print and on radio, she produced, edited, and recorded her own TV show during lockdown and was the co-presenter of a series of film discussion shows at university. She is also a member of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers.

Tom is a recent Cardiff University Graduate. Growing up with parents involved in the live music industry, he has always had a passion for music and has spent much of his life either listening, watching, or writing about music. During his time at University he presented a weekly entertainment show on the Student run station, Xpress Radio, and interviewed several high-profile artists, including You Me at Six, Enter Shikari and Tom Walker. In addition to this he has also interviewed artists such as The Wombats and Maise Peters on behalf of the Student Radio Association.
