Ida Vallens – Mt Whitney Motel
AudioActive, Emerge - Artist Development Project (Brighton)
Drawing on her American roots, Ida Vallens' dreamlike lyrics are often set in an imagined American landscape, playfully plotting the lives of characters from an unwritten movie script.
Ida says: “The Mt Whitney Motel video tells the story of an unidentified sex worker who has been murdered in her motel room. The song is about unsolved disappearances and homicides involving sex workers and Jane Does who are seen as less worthy of a real investigation. Mt Whitney Motel is about exploring the mind of the Jane Doe and the story behind her struggles with addiction, domestic abuse and her feelings of hopelessness.”
CVYP Collective - More Doors
Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project
CVYP Collective are a group of young people with SEND who attend music sessions at Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project . They experimented with found sound, creating this strange and wonderful track which was written and performed by the group, and produced by music leader Patrick Villiers- Stuart as part of the project Off the Beat.
Nominated by Amy Mitchell, producer at Helix Arts.
Amy says, "CVYP are a group of young people with mixed abilities who attend sessions at Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project - we have been working with them for a couple of years now and this is one of the first music videos they have produced. The inspiration for this tune was the squeaky door to the music room, which they decided to sample and then manipulate to make the track. The creative process was fast, inspired and wild! They worked with a film-maker and their music leader to create the video utilising a DIY green screen."
