Green Gardens – Samson/Sauna
Music Leeds (Yorkshire)
Green Gardens are an art-rock four piece from Leeds. Samson/Sauna was written as a reaction to being suffocated by the concrete mass of living in an industrial city, and the comparison with the vast green spaces of Yorkshire and the surrounding countryside. It also highlights comparisons between the environmental catastrophe that is approaching and a personal family illness of a fading family member.
Runner up
Katy Alex x Tori Cross – Beautiful Stranger
LIMF Academy (North West)
The track started from a plucked sample found on Splice. Katy and Tori altered the concept as the lyrics developed, making the track about a guy having a relationship with two girls at once. They tried to imagine the conversations that would take place between the two women, and the things they would say to the guy who was cheating, so lyrics like "karma's gonna get you" amplified the emotions the women would feel being betrayed.
Runner up
Shamz and Kally – Regret
Romsey Mill (East of England)
Shamz has a great passion for music and is constantly pushing himself to release new music. Kallum (Kally) has been a young person coming to Romsey Mill’s youth groups, a young leader, a volunteer and now a member of staff. This song gave Shamz and Kally the opportunity to reflect on their past regrets they have in life, not so they may dwell on them but instead, to acknowledge and learn from past mistakes when moving into the future.
